About Become an FDE

Who publishes Become an FDE, how every article is sourced and fact-checked, what we will not do, and how the site makes money.

About us

Become an FDE publishes practical guides for people moving into forward deployed engineering: the skills, the path from each starting background, the portfolio and the interviews.

Lines we do not cross

  • Take money for coverage, or hide a business connection behind a recommendation.
  • Tell readers that a job, a salary or any other result is certain.
  • Make up authors, reviewers, testimonials, ratings, pay figures or statistics.

A note on advice

We explain how roles, programs and markets work and what the evidence says. For decisions about your career, contracts, hiring or money, talk to a qualified professional who knows your situation.

How this site is funded

We take no payment for coverage and earn no referral fees. We have a business connection with Torchlane. Torchlane offers AI FDE training and also introduces employers to forward deployed engineering candidates. A few of our articles name Torchlane as “Our top pick”, and every such recommendation carries the note right where it appears. A link to Torchlane passes through an address on this site that records the click before sending you on; the Privacy Policy explains what is recorded.

We also share an analytics account with Torchlane, as the Privacy Policy describes. Every other program, company and option is described in its own published terms. We run no display ads.

Where our facts come from

  • Studies and reports are cited from the original paper or report.
  • Program and company details are taken from the organization’s own pages: its documentation, its course or exam pages and its job postings.
  • Salary and labor figures are drawn from primary data such as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, public filings and published pay ranges, always with the date they describe.

Factual claims are footnoted, with a numbered link to the source. When we cannot find a source for something, we leave it out.
